I was born and raised in Germany and found I had a knack with languages and translating at an early age. Even during my school days I chose not simply to learn to read English, but also to learn whole stories off by heart to then recite them to my teacher the next day - a great achievement and right confidence booster for a very shy little girl!
I adored all things English (the humour, the Beatles ...), and finally took the plunge and moved to the UK in 1987. Not only did I fall in love with the quirky British way of life and the beautiful Isle of Wight, I also very quickly learnt to improve my school English into "proper" English, e.g. I realised that people did not really say "How do you do" on meeting, but rather "Nice to meet you!".
It was a natural progression through a variety of jobs to take on more and more translating and interpreting assignments, then gaining the Diploma in Public Service Interpreting through working for the Hampshire Constabulary. Further work experience included working as a bilingual secretary/P.A. for a UK based German company which involved provision of telephone customer services in both English and German, translating and proofreading of websites, providing a language consultancy service to affiliated companies, interpreting at international seminars ... the list goes on.
Meanwhile I also undertook private translation work including a German children's book which has since been published on Amazon.
Based on I Translate German's philosophy to focus on long-term business relationships, I prefer working for a small number of clients so that I can fully focus on their language. Over time the good quality of my work became known on the Isle of Wight, and now there is more and more work coming from abroad - thanks to the internet the communication can be kept at a high and reassuring level.
Setting up I Translate German was the fulfilment of a lifelong dream of mine - working from home as a freelance translator, interpreter and language service provider.
This is my ambition, my dream, my passion - and if this should be something you are looking for in a translator, please do contact me and I am sure we will be able to come to a business arrangement which will suit both of us :)
